While there is no one defined answer to this question, assuming that your home is of average to large in size, weather permitting, it should take approximately 3 to 5 days. This is because at Iron River Roofing and Construction, we are large enough to serve you; but small enough to know you.
One thing you should count on is lots of pounding, and lots of shaking while the work is going on. Many people opt to simply be out of the house for a few days so they won’t have to deal with all the noise. Tearing off a roof requires a handful of men that will be using hammers and crowbars 8 hours a day or more, to pry off thousands of nails. They will also be ripping up the old roof and throwing it 2 stories below into a dumpster. Needless to say, this is very loud.
Once the old roof is off, and the yard is somewhat cleaned up, the new roof will begin to lay.
There is a layer of tar paper that goes down below the shingles that serves to water proof the underlayment. This is mandatory in roofing and should never be skipped to save a few pennies. Once this is on, the shingles will begin to be nailed into place and this is where you and your neighbors will really take notice. The hammering of several men can be heard throughout the neighborhood, and is clearly the unmistakable sound of a new roof.
Along with the noise, is a fair amount of shaking inside your home. For this reason we always advise to secure loose items, and lay down anything that might be leaning against a wall anywhere. It is not uncommon for a picture or two to fall off the wall while all this is going on. Sometimes you will have to make a few sacrifices for the greater good.
Once the new roof is on, you will good to go for another 20 years- or more. If you chose Iron River Construction in the Minneapolis area, you can be sure that no matter what comes, your roof is in good hands. 952-442-1762
